Passing of Piper John Coughlin

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of John Coughlin. John has been a Piper with NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums for over 50 years.


OBITUARY

John G. Coughlin, 77, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, formerly of West Sayville, NY, passed away suddenly on July 14, 2023.  Born and raised in Queens, John graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School and went on to serve in the US Army during Vietnam.  He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at NY Institute of Technology and his Master’s Degree at CW Post.  John worked with the NYPD for 20 years before retiring as a Detective in 1989.


He was a bagpiper in the NYPD Pipes and Drums since 1973 and was a longtime member of the NYC Police Emerald Society.  After retiring from the NYPD, John went on to work as Manager of Security at Estee Lauder in Melville.


Mr. Coughlin is survived by his wife, Carol, his four children, John and his wife Alison of Pennsylvania, Bridget Marazita of West Sayville, Lauren Griffin and her husband Tim of Long Island, NY, and Elizabeth Belfiore of Florida, his six grandchildren, Brianna (Blane), Alexandria, Emma, Madeline, John and James, as well as his two siblings, Gerald Coughlin and Mary Terrill.


Friends and relatives will gather on Sunday, July 23rd, 2-4:30 & 7-9:30 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 24th at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence RC Church in Sayville and interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
